I’m working on a non-fiction book called Shifting Gears (tentative title) about Arctic Monkeys, focusing on their seventh studio album, The Car, and the world tour that followed.

Combining extensive research, unpublished interviews/quotes and original photos taken across the tour, Shifting Gears will investigate the dichotomy between the band’s increasingly tender studio material and their reputation as an explosive live act. The book will mix narrative non-fiction with elements of memoir, cultural commentary/analysis and music theory to chronicle the production, release and impact of The Car, as well as document how the band’s live show evolved night-by-night, leg-by-leg across the tour. Exploring the litany of influences, inspirations and references spread across their studio material and live performances, it will also contextualise Arctic Monkeys’ recent stylistic changes and reveal layers of depth in their creative direction post-AM.
